A Letter from the Executive Director

By Jennifer Metivier, MS, FASPR, ASPR Executive Director

Jen Metivier, DASPRAs you read the first issue of JASPR for 2013, let me wish you a happy new year! I hope you feel rejuvenated for a productive year ahead! We have several new items to share with you:

New webinars

The 2013 ASPR Monthly Webinar Series has been posted to the ASPR website and the webinars are open for registration. Don’t forget that these webinars are free and if you miss one, you can view it on demand anytime. All of the webinars from 2011 and 2012 are available in the webinar archive. Take advantage of these convenient educational resources!

New chapters

ASPR is excited to announce that we have two new chapters! The Chapter & Regional Relations Committee headed by Chris Kashnig, FASPR and Lori Pinkerton has been assisting the groups with becoming official ASPR Chapters. Onboarding and Retention (OAR) is a chapter with a focus on (you guessed it…) onboarding and retention! Membership in OAR is open to any ASPR member. The other new chapter is the Southeast Physician Recruitment Association (SEPRA), which includes ASPR members from Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, and Tennessee. AIR (Academic Inhouse Recruiters) was ASPR’s first chapter, like OAR, which started out as a special interest group. Congratulations to our new chapters!

New Fellowship exams

The Fellowship Committee is in the final phase of updating all three Fellowship certification exams. The new exams should be ready for use in April, if all continues on schedule. As previously mentioned, the Physician Recruitment 201 module will become available as a new webinar series later this year. It’s easy to get started on your Fellowship certification with the already available Physician Recruitment 101 webinar series.

New mentors

We are continually looking for new mentors for the ASPR Mentor Program. If you have at least two years of physician recruitment experience or have your Associate of ASPR designation (or higher), you are eligible to be a mentor. Consider becoming a mentor and helping out a colleague who is new to our field.

New co-chairs

Congratulations to Suzanne Anderson, FASPR, Duke University, Durham, NC and Lori Pinkerton. Suzanne was appointed to the co-chair position for the Benchmarking Committee joining Co-Chair Shelley Tudor, FASPR, Humana, Louisville, KY. Lori joins Chris Kashnig, FASPR, Dean Clinic, Madison, WI, as co-chair of the Chapter & Regional Relations Committee.

Deep gratitude and appreciation to outgoing co-chairs, Debbie Gleason, FASPR, The Nebraska Medical Center, Omaha, NE, for her service as co-chair of the Benchmarking Committee and Frank Gallagher, Baystate Health, Springfield, MA, for his service as co-chair of the Chapter & Regional Relations Committee. Both Debbie and Frank will continue to be part of the ASPR Leadership Team as members of the ASPR Board of Directors.

New conference date

We recently announced in the ASPR Weekly and social media posts that ASPR will have a new date for the annual conference. Starting in 2015, the ASPR Annual Conference will be held in May. Additional details on this change are included within this issue of JASPR.

Last but not least, don’t forget to mark your calendars for the 2013 ASPR Annual Conference, which will be held August 10-14, 2013 at the JW Marriott Starr Pass in Tucson, AZ. The Education Committee is planning an incredible line up of speakers and a fun-filled evening event at Old Tucson Studios. Additional details will be forthcoming in the ASPR Weekly, so stay tuned!

As always, I look forward to hearing any thoughts, suggestions, ideas, or comments from you!
