Steve Rice is Area President of Integrated Healthcare Strategies, a division of Gallagher Benefit Services, Inc. Mr. Rice brings more than 30 years of healthcare operations and consulting experience, including administrative positions in acute care, long-term care, and physician practice management.
Mr. Rice specializes in the areas of physician compensation, acquisition, and integration. He has significant experience in assessing the fair market value of physician compensation and hospital economic relationships. Mr. Rice concentrates his consulting in the areas of designing income distribution plans for primary care, specialty, and sub-specialty physicians, as well as for advanced practitioners. In addition, Mr. Rice assists clients in structuring physician affiliation models such as direct employment versus professional service agreements.
Mr. Rice has extensive consulting experience communicating to Boards and senior management the challenges of integrating physicians practices into healthcare organizations. As a past healthcare administrator in a hospital and long-term care facilities, as well as multi-specialty and academic sub-specialty physician practice settings, Mr. Rice has the ability to effectively communicate physician integration challenges to physicians.
Mr. Rice has a B.S. in public administration from the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse, as well as an MBA specializing in healthcare from the University of St. Thomas.
Chad Stutelberg is Managing Director & Practice Leader of the Physician Services practice at Integrated Healthcare Strategies, a division of Gallagher Benefit Services, Inc. He has been a healthcare consultant for the last eighteen years. Prior to joining Gallagher Integrated, he briefly worked for the University of Minnesota Department of Pediatrics.
Mr. Stutelberg’s consulting experience lies in the areas of physician benchmarking, compensation, and operations. His extensive experience in the audit, design, and implementation of new physician income distribution models for physicians affiliated with integrated delivery systems, academic medical centers, stand-alone hospitals, and large physician group practices has helped clients better align their compensation systems, improve their financial performance, and increase their success in recruiting and retaining the best physicians.
Having conducted valuations of the contractual agreements between hospitals and physicians for over eighteen years, Mr. Stutelberg is able to assist his clients in ensuring the compensation they provide is within fair market value and commercially reasonable. Mr. Stutelberg has also worked with many clients in the development of appropriate policies, procedures, and governance structures to ensure the organization is consistent with the best practices around physician compensation compliance.
In addition, Mr. Stutelberg has assisted clients in the development of compensation strategies and performance-based compensation programs for physicians in administrative positions, including identifying appropriate benchmarks, measuring performance, and developing medical directorship and clinical co-management programs. In these projects he assists clients with the development of financial proformas and operational analyses that assist clients in improving the financial performance and clinical outcomes of a service line or clinical practice.
Mr. Stutelberg has a Master of Arts in Industrial Relations from the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota.
